Report: Rangers' Lombardi to be placed on unconditional waivers after refusing AHL assignment

The New York Rangers will put Matthew Lombardi on unconditional waivers after the veteran forward refused to report to the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA.
Lombardi is likely heading back to Geneve-Servette HC in Switzerland, where he planned to play prior to signing a two-year, $1.6-million contract with the Rangers in July.
The Rangers already have 14 forwards under contract this season, meaning Lombardi was lost in the shuffle after failing to crack the NHL lineup out of training camp.
