Matt Duchene on season-opening loss to Wild: 'They probably deserved to win 8-0'

The Colorado Avalanche were embarrassed by the Minnesota Wild 5-0 in Thursday's season opener, and forward Matt Duchene says it should have been an even bigger blowout.

“That was a clinic for them last night,” Duchene told the Denver Post on Friday. “They absolutely dominated us. They probably deserved to win 8-0.”

The Wild set a franchise record with 48 shots on goal, while Colorado managed only 16.

“We just weren’t ready for last night,” Duchene said. “We didn’t know what was going to hit us. We played terrible.”

“Everyone has to take responsibility for their own game and not pass the problem off to their teammates and their linemates,” Duchene said. “A lot of us didn’t want the puck last night. There were a lot of times we passed the problem to somebody else.”

The Avalanche won't have to wait long to exact revenge, as Colorado hosts Minnesota on Saturday night.
