- Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was pulled in favor of Cam Talbot late in the second period after David Clarkson's goal with 4:47 remaining.
- Leafs netminder James Reimer left the game early in the third period after being inadvertently hit in the head by Rangers forward Dominic Moore. It was Reimer's first start of the season. Jonathan Bernier replaced him.
- The Leafs scored five goals in a period for the first time in nearly three years.
- The Rangers had two goals reviewed, with mixed results. Lee Stempniak's goal in the second was upheld after he scored while the net came off its moorings. The second reviewed goal was disallowed.
- Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner was a controversial late scratch, but Cody Franson silenced the critics by scoring the game's first goal.
- Rangers forward Rick Nash left the game before the start of the third period to be with his wife, who is expecting the couple's first child. He scored a goal in the first period.
- Maple Leafs defenseman Stuart Percy became the first rookie defenseman in franchise history to record a point in each of the team's first three games of a season.
