Coyotes coach looking for Boedker to be a consistent factor after red-hot start
Arizona Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker recorded his first career hat trick in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers, putting him in a tie for second in goals scored with five behind Rick Nash of the New York Rangers.
All three goals against the Oilers can be seen here, with Boedker's range of skills on full display.
Despite the hot start to the season, head coach Dave Tippett is looking for a more consistent and competitive effort from the 24-year-old.
"(Boedker) has had great stretches the last couple years and then gone quiet for a while," Tippett told the Arizona Republic. "His challenge is to keep his game, and I'm not just talking about goals and points, I'm talking about his competitive nature, like being a factor in the game, and if he can continue to do that night-in, night-out, he's going to be a very good player for us."
In 82 games last season, Boedker set career highs in goals (19) and assists (32), and could be in line to greatly improve on those numbers. Set to become a restricted free agent at season's end, his case for a big pay day will only be strengthened by taking heed of Tippett's advice.
