Kings' Voynov suspended indefinitely after arrest on domestic violence accusations

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has been been suspended indefinitely from all club activities pending a formal investigation by the NHL following his arrest Monday morning on accusations of domestic violence.

According to the official release from the league, the suspension was levied under Section 18-A.5 of the NHL collective bargaining agreement, which states that, during a criminal investigation, “The League may suspend the Player pending the League’s formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League.”

Voynov will continue to be paid by the Kings throughout the course of the investigation.

The 24-year-old is a two-time Stanley Cup winner and appeared in all six of the Kings' games so far this season, averaging more than 23 minutes of ice time with two assists.

Update: Voynov is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 22, according to Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times.
