Flames sign T.J. Brodie to 5-year contract extension worth reported $4.65M per year
The Calgary Flames have signed defenseman T.J. Brodie to a five-year contract extension, the club announced Monday.
The deal is believed to be worth $4.65 million per year, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN.
Brodie came into his own on the Calgary blue line in 2013-14, with four goals, 27 assists, 104 shots on goal and an even plus/minus rating - no small feat on a squad that posted a minus-32 goal differential.
Through six games this year, Brodie is averaging a point per game with a plus-four rating and 51.3 Corsi For percentage at even strength while locking things down with Mark Giordano.
General manager Brad Treliving called Brodie a "big building block" for the club, and praised his high level of play.
The new deal keeps Brodie under contract through the 2019-20 NHL season.
