VIDEO: Ducks' Palmieri scores after Coyotes' Smith stumbles behind net
It's no butt goal, but Sunday's blunder will likely haunt Arizona Coyotes netminder Mike Smith for a while.
Smith was playing well in a game dominated by the Anaheim Ducks, stopping the first 20 shots he faced. Though, he undid all that hard work with one misstep behind his own net late in the second period.
Smith went to play the puck on a dump-in and lost his footing, allowing Ducks forward Patrick Maroon to gain possession. Ryan Kesler sent the puck to Kyle Palmieri, who scored on an open net as Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek piled onto Smith in a comedy of errors for Arizona.
While Smith is no stranger to embarrassing goals, he could use a little luck going his way for a change - especially considering his rough start to the season (4-10-1, 3.30 goals-against average, .890 save percentage in 15 appearances entering Sunday).
