Dreger: 'It's going to have to get a lot worse' before Oilers fire head coach Eakins
The reeling Edmonton Oilers haven't won in 10 games. They haven't even forced a shootout, as all 10 losses have come in regulation or overtime.
While the Oilers and their fans are getting desperate, the club isn't in a rush to make a blockbuster trade or fire embattled head coach Dallas Eakins, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
"Nothing (is) imminent," Dreger said of the Oilers' posture during an Insider Trading segment on TSN on Tuesday night. "It's going to have to get a lot worse for Craig MacTavish to fire his head coach Dallas Eakins, so status quo in Edmonton."
Eakins was highly regarded as an AHL coach who guided the Toronto Marlies to the Calder Cup final in 2012, but his first two seasons in Edmonton have been an unmitigated disaster. In Eakins' first 100 games (and change) as Edmonton's bench boss, the club has amassed a brutal 35-59-10 record and appears to have taken a step back this season.
