PHOTOS: Retrospective on Jean Beliveau's career
The hockey world lost a true legend Tuesday, as it was announced that Jean Beliveau died at age 83.
Beliveau played 20 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, recording 507 goals and 1,219 points in 1,125 regular season games. He was a 14-time All-Star, a two-time Hart Trophy winner and won the Art Ross in 1956 and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1965 (the first time it was awarded).
He also hoisted the Stanley Cup 10 times as a player and his name appears on The Cup seven more times as an executive.
Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette took to Twitter on Wednesday to post a few classic photos of the Canadiens legend.
Beliveau was no stranger to finding the back of the net and always celebrated with class.
He did, however, take advantage of opportunities to let loose.
Beliveau was beloved by Montreal hockey fans and never wasted an opportunity to brighten even the most special of days.
Beliveau also made regular appearances during Montreal's famous pregame ceremonies, as evidenced here in January of 2013. The raising of the torch symbolized the club's motto, a line borrowed from the poem "In Flanders Fields."
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
