Paul MacLean after being fired by Senators: 'I don't regret anything'
Former Ottawa Senators head coach Paul MacLean addressed the media on Tuesday, reflecting on being let go as the team's head coach the day before.
The event kicked off in memorable fashion. MacLean stated he's a better coach today than he was yesterday, and that he feels more than prepared for the next opportunity. He then pulled a Taylor Swift and said he's going to shake this off, and was met by the following surprise response.
The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta captured the strange incident on Vine:
Once things settled down, MacLean made a pretty firm statement about his time with the Senators.
He was also asked about comments made before his firing suggesting he was "scared to death" about every opponent the team faced.
His response: "I thought we lost four games in a row. I didn't think we lost our sense of humor."
MacLean wrapped things up by saying he's not angry about the decision to let him go. "Am I pissed off?" he asked himself. "No. I had a great opportunity here and I appreciate that. You have to win."
He added he has no immediate plans for the future.
In 239 regular season games with the Senators, MacLean posted a coaching record of 114-90-35. Dave Cameron, who also addressed reporters Tuesday, will coach his first game for the club Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings.
