Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports later offered the following statement from Gagne on his Twitter account:
We learned some bad news in the last days. My father met with specialists in Boston and he has incurable cancer. Right now there are more important things than hockey and I want to be with my family in Quebec City.
The 34-year-old joined the team after a pro tryout contract in training camp, signing a one-year deal for the balance of the season.
He recorded three goals and one assist in 23 games for the black and gold.
