Canucks recall farmhand Biega from Utica

The Vancouver Canucks have recalled veteran farmhand defender Alex Biega from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League, according to the AHL's transaction page.
The club recently re-assigned defenseman Frank Corrado, who spent almost a month with the club but never played in a game. Corrado, 21, needs to play if he's going to continue to improve; that's not as big a concern for an organizational depth player like Biega.
The club prefers to keep seven defenders on the roster, but would understandably rather have a veteran like Biega gathering cobwebs on the practice squad while Corrado plays in all situations in the AHL.
