Nashville Predators forward James Neal is the first NHL player to be given a fine for diving.
Neal has been fined $2,000 for an incident that took place in Saturday's loss to the San Jose Sharks, the league announced Wednesday.
The NHL increased the punishment for embellishment prior to the season.
The first offense garners a warning, and the second offense warrants a $2,000 fine. Neal was issued a warning for a previous incident during a game against the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 13.
