Roberto Luongo's 5 most memorable moments with the Canucks
Roberto Luongo returns to Vancouver as a member of the Florida Panthers on Thursday for the first time since being traded by the Canucks and emotions will be running high.
Luongo spent parts of eight seasons with Vancouver, leading them on a run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011.
Here are the five most memorable moments from Luongo's time with the Canucks:
A Stellar Playoff Debut
Luongo makes a statement in his first career playoff game, stopping 72-of-76 shots in a quadruple overtime win over the Dallas Stars.
Blackhawk Down
After the Canucks squander a 3-0 series lead in their 2011 first-round series against the Chicago Blackhawks – thanks largely to Luongo's poor play in Games 4, 5 and 6 – it all comes down to a seventh game.
Luongo rises to the occasion, stopping 31-of-32 shots in a 2-1 overtime victory.
'My Contract Sucks'
After months of trade rumors, the 2013 deadline passes without a deal involving Luongo, and the goaltender is asked why he wasn't dealt. That leads to this classic response.
One Win Away
Luongo's greatest performance is certainly debatable, but it's hard to argue with his play in Game 5 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.
The Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins by a combined score of 12-1 in Games 3 and 4, and Vancouver needed Luongo to help shift the momentum of the series.
With three centers playing hurt and top offensive defenseman Christian Ehrhoff battling an injury of his own, Luongo shut out the Bruins 1-0, giving the Canucks a 3-2 series lead.
Although they would lose the next two games and the series, it was a defining moment in the goaltender's career.
The Heritage Classic Snub
Head coach John Tortorella decides to start Eddie Lack in the 2014 Heritage Classic in Vancouver, forcing Luongo to watch from the bench.
Luongo is traded to the Panthers two days later and the veteran eventually reveals he may still be a Canuck if not for that coaching decision.
