The Sabres have a few banged-up forwards, so the 33-year-old Ellis will help with depth. He has 47 points (20 goals) in 317 career NHL appearances, but hasn't played in an NHL game this season. Ellis is a depth player who can man center or the wing and will likely serve on the fourth line. He brings some veteran experience to the lineup with Chris Stewart still reeling from an illness.
