Carcillo declines in-person hearing for hit on Perreault; phone call set for Monday

Dan Carcillo has declined a trip to the NHL head office in New York for a meeting with the Department of Player Safety.

The Chicago Blackhawks forward has waived his right to an in-person hearing for an injurious cross-check on Mathieu Perreault of the Winnipeg Jets, and the NHL has therefore announced that a phone hearing will be conducted Monday.

Carcillo, however, can still be suspended for more than five games even if the hearing is not conducted face-to-face.

Carcillo last met with the NHL for disciplinary reasons during the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs, where he was suspended six games for abusing an official as a member of the New York Rangers.

He sat out Sunday's game against Dallas pending the hearing.
