Here's what you need to know about Tuesday's truculent affair:
- Penguins defenseman Kris Letang was knocked out of the game in the first period after Zac Rinaldo left his feet to hit Letang into the boards from behind. Rinaldo seemed unapologetic after the contest.
- The teams combined for 66 penalty minutes in the second period alone as Zach Sill, Michael Raffl, Jakub Voracek, Rob Scuderi, Steve Downie, Luke Schenn, Bobby Farnham and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare all dropped the gloves.
- Chris Kunitz scored a shorthanded goal for his 500th career point.
- Ray Emery stopped 33 shots for the victory, while Thomas Greiss made 37 saves in his second start of 2015.
- Pittsburgh was called for too many men in overtime, leading to Giroux's winner.
