Big money. Big stakes. Vegas, baby.
The NHL and its owners are expecting to generate more than $450 million in expansion fees as a result of the league's potential expansion to Las Vegas.
"It's going to be between $450 million and $500 million. I bet it comes in at about $475 million," a league owner shared with TSN's Rick Westhead, who confirmed the estimate with another ownership source.
The projections are a considerable increase from the last two expansion fees paid to the NHL. The Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets paid just $80 million each in 2000.
