Flyers, Timonen not rushing potential return from blood clots

It's going to take a little more time before it's determined whether Kimmo Timonen can resume his hockey career.

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said Wednesday that while a blood clot in Timonen's lung has cleared, further tests are needed.

"This isn’t a knee or something we’re talking about here. Not that a knee (is) unimportant, obviously every injury is, but this is more than that so we’re going to take as much time as we need to make what we feel is the right decision," Hextall said, according to the team's official website.

"We have all of the information, but it’s not just one doctor involved here so we’re trying to talk to everybody (and) put everything together," he added. "Then we’ll make a decision when we feel comfortable, everything’s been discussed and all the information has been passed around to everybody ... and Kimmo’s comfortable and we’re comfortable."

Timonen has missed the entire season to date due to the serious health issue, but remains hopeful he can resume his duties on the blue line sooner than later.
