Treliving indicates Flames will stay the course at trade deadline

Brad Treliving is playing with house money.

His Calgary Flames team - projected to be eyeing the ping-pong balls, not Wild Card positioning in the hotly-contested Western Conference - has done more than enough to appease a fan base who came into the season with little expectation. 

It's a mindset that has fans reveling in the team's competitiveness, and is one they should continue to hold in the leadup to the March 2 trade deadline.

"We are still taking a long-term view in building our team. We don't have an appetite to trade away futures for possible fixes," Treliving told TSN 1260's Jason Gregor.

"It's important for me to look beyond today," he explained. "This time of year, the temptation to go grab someone is very high."

An executive with the baggage of five straight seasons on the outside might have more difficulty standing pat, but Treliving appears to be without illusion and seemingly in compete control of the direction of his franchise.
