St. Louis Blues captain David Backes will reportedly avoid further discipline for his dangerous hit Sunday to the back of Washington Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Backes was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct on the play, instant sanction apparently sufficient by standards of the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Alzner was bloodied on the play, but stayed in the game.
