Agent expects Oilers' Petry to be traded prior to deadline
Jeff Petry's days in Edmonton appear numbered.
At least that's the message being conveyed by the soon-to-be UFA's agent.
"We have had no contract negotiations with the Oilers and we’ve expressed that to Jeff," agent Wade Arnott told Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal. "We expect Jeff will be dealt by the deadline."
The Oilers, meanwhile, have reportedly been trying to trade Petry for months, so the obvious conclusion is that the defenseman will indeed find a new home sooner or later.
Considering the demand for right-handed shots on the blue line, there's likely no shortage of suitors, with the matter of cost still yet to be settled.
Matheson reports that teams have been calling Arnott to assess whether his client might be interested in signing an extension post-trade, which could up the ante in terms of a return for Edmonton.
Petry, 27, has recorded four goals, 10 assists, 100 shots and a minus-25 rating in 56 games for the Oilers.
