Wild, Dubnyk waiting until after season to talk contract extension

Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher wants Devan Dubnyk to keep his mind on playing hockey and nothing else.

Despite a hugely successful run since being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes in mid-January, the two sides appear set to wait until season's end to broach the topic of a contract extension.

"We’re just going to let him play right now," Fletcher told Elliote Friedman of Sportsnet. "No need to worry about anything else."

Dubnyk has been playing at an extremely high level since joining the Wild, posting a 10-2-1 record with four shutouts and a .935 save percentage. As a result, the club has climbed to within three points of a wild-card spot.

It seems prudent, however, not to jump to reward a player in the midst of such a run, and without knowing whether it will lead to a playoff appearance. But if he keeps rolling at a similar pace, expect Dubnyk to be rewarded handsomely in the offseason.
