Report: Avalanche unlikely to deal O'Reilly before trade deadline
As the Colorado Avalanche attempt to make a late postseason push, it appears they'll do so with forward Ryan O'Reilly on their roster.
The 24-year-old has seen his name surface in trade rumors all season long as he's set to hit unrestricted free agency at the conclusion of next season.
However, Darren Dreger of TSN believes the Avalanche will likely stand pat on dealing the former second-round pick prior to Monday's trade deadline.
"(A) deadline deal is unlikely when you're moving a piece as significant as Ryan O'Reilly," Dreger said Tuesday on TSN's Insider Trading segment. "What's more likely is that the two sides will continue to have some dialogue to discuss the parameters of what an extension might look like in the summer.
"They can't get it done before July 1. If the team doesn't like it, then the draft floor is the perfect location to move Ryan O'Reilly."
After posting a career-high 28 goals and 64 points a season ago, O'Reilly has failed to improve upon those numbers this year. In 60 games, he has 10 goals and 34 points while leading all Avalanche forwards in ice time with 19:30 per game.
