Nathan MacKinnon's sophomore season has not gone as planned.
The reigning Calder Trophy winner hit another bump in the road to NHL stardom Saturday, suffering a broken nose on this hit from Sean Bergenheim of the Minnesota Wild.
As the video shows, MacKinnon was forced to don a full cage following a brief exit from the game.
No penalty was called on the play, leading to a boiling over of frustrations and a flurry of penalties in the dying seconds of the contest.
For the season, MacKinnon has scored 13 goals in 63 games for the Colorado Avalanche, well off the 24-goal pace set in his rookie season.
