Islanders' Martin suspended 1 game for kneeing Stars' Daley
Jerome Miron / USA Today
The NHL department of player safety suspended New York Islanders forward Matt Martin one game for kneeing Dallas Stars defenseman Trevor Daley.
The decision stems from the reckless nature of the collision and the resulting injury. Martin's previous suspension history was also taken into account.
The department of player safety agreed with Martin's assertion that there was no malicious intent on the play.
Martin will miss Thursday's game against the Nashville Predators but can return to the lineup Saturday against the Florida Panthers. Daley is expected to miss weeks with a knee injury.
