Penguins' Evgeni Malkin held out Sunday vs. Red Wings

Sergei Belski / USA Today

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin did not play in Sunday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Malkin left Saturday's game against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury after taking a hit from forward Chris Kelly. He returned briefly only to leave again.

Penguins head coach Mike Johnston does not expect the injury to be a long-term issue.

Malkin has 28 goals and 68 points in 63 games this season.
