Former NHLer Mikael Samuelsson retires from hockey

Mikael Samuelsson, a veteran of 14 seasons in the NHL, is hanging up his skates, reports Linus Hugosson of Pro Hockey Magazine.

The onetime 30-goal scorer was a staple in the lineups of the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks from 2005-2011.
The 38-year-old last played in the NHL for the Red Wings in 2013-14.
He was playing with Djurgarden of the Swedish Hockey League when he announced his retirement.
Samuelsson's best season came in 2009-10 when he recorded 53 points in 74 games for the Canucks.
