10 seconds into the second period of Saturday's game against the New York Rangers, the Boston Bruins were forced to make a change in net.
The change occurred when starting goalie Tuukka Rask called for the attention of the referee, promptly skated off the ice and walked down the tunnel to the locker room.
Niklas Svedberg entered the game in relief.
Later in the game, which the Bruins won 4-2, the Bruins announced Rask was unlikely to return, and he in fact did not.
They offered the following update after the game:
In need of backup, Bob Essensa - Bruins' goalie coach and veteran of 446 career NHL games - dressed in full gear and came out to the bench.
