VIDEO: Canucks' Burrows ejected after catching Predators' Gaustad with head shot
Wherever Alex Burrows goes, trouble - deliberate or not - usually follows.
The Vancouver Canucks' forward caught Nashville Predators' center Paul Gaustad with a head shot Tuesday night. The play looked innocent enough in real time, but slowed down, the video may tell another story:
Burrows was assessed a five-minute major penalty for interference and a 10-minute misconduct during the game's next stoppage, as a penalty wasn't initially called on the play, which happened late in the third period. Gaustad, who has a history with head injuries, left the game under his own power but didn't return. The Predators didn't provide an update on his status after the game.
Burrows addressed the collision after the game, saying he didn't intend to hurt Gaustad, and that he hopes the big man is okay:
The NHL Department of Player Safety will likely take a look at the hit, especially considering Burrows' history as a repeat offender. He was suspended three games early in the season for a late hit on Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin.
"You're always worried," Burrows said about potential discipline from the league. "It's not for me to call."
Bonino on Burrows: “Let the league do what they do. But Burr was just hit viciously into the boards (by Toffoli) and nothing happened."
