While the Washington Capitals were celebrating, Dan Boyle was down and out.
Late in the third period of Game 1 against the Washington Capitals, the New York Rangers defenseman was attempting to protect the puck in the corner when Nicklas Backstrom rocked him into the boards.
The puck sprang free and found its way from Alex Ovechkin to Joel Ward and into the back of the net, while Boyle was forced to leave the ice in obvious discomfort.
No penalty was called on the play, but tensions boiled over at the end of regulation and a melee ensued.
Rangers coach Alain Vigneault did not have an update on Boyle's status immediately following the game.
