Brandon Prust wishes he could take it all back.
The Montreal Canadiens forward spoke to the media Tuesday for the first time since Sunday's Game 2 against the Tampa Bay Lighting when he spoke very critically of referee Brad Watson.
"I regret what I said," Prust told reporters. "If I could go back and redo it I would, but you can't."
He apologized to Watson and the rest of the NHL;s refs also adding that he was very emotional following the team's 6-2 loss on home ice and that both he and Watson have a history of heated exchanges.
Prust told reporters during a post game scrum Sunday that he thought Watson had made a questionable call on him in the first period and that the referee had called him names as he escorted Prust to the penalty box.
The incident has since prompted some to believe that Prust could become a target for other referees. The 31-year-old says he expects to receive a call from Senior Vice President of the NHL, Colin Campbell later on Tuesday.
Prust was assessed 31 minutes in penalties in Game 2. He has three assists in eight postseason games.
