Red Wings won't announce coach until Griffins done
DETROIT (AP) Don't expect any major announcements from the Detroit Red Wings about their next coach as long as their Grand Rapids affiliate is still playing.
General manager Ken Holland says the Red Wings will not announce a new coach until the Griffins are finished with the playoffs.
Grand Rapids coach Jeff Blashill has been an obvious candidate to take over the Red Wings from the moment coach Mike Babcock left for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Grand Rapids is in the Western Conference finals of the AHL playoffs. The Griffins trailed Utica 2-1 in the best-of-seven series heading into Friday night's Game 4.
