Islanders announce partnership with new practice facility
With the New York Islanders moving to Brooklyn next season, the team will need a new place to practice as well.
The team will now hone its skills at the Cantiague Park Ice Facility, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Islanders Principal Owner Charles B. Wang announced Friday.
"Nassau County has been the Islanders home for the past 43 years and we are thrilled to continue this tradition," Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. "Cantiague Park Ice Facility will become one of the premiere skating facilities in the area. We look forward to keeping our connection to the Long Island community and the most passionate fans in the NHL."
The facility will also act as the team's business office. For fans, the team plans to hold five open practices, two annual scrimmages, and three annual public player autograph sessions.
The facility will also include an Islanders Pro Shop and will see Nassau County compensated for a minimum of $200,000 a year for the duration of the 10-year agreement by the Islanders.
The team had been practicing at the Iceworks Syosset in Syosset, NY.
