Overview
Provorov separated himself as a top-flight prospect as a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings last season, rocketing up projection lists based on his balance between physicality and grace.
At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Provorov can dish out body checks with - and to - the best of them. His skating and puck-handling allows him to quickly move the puck up the ice - whether by way of a crisp pass or dexterous breakout - after removing the puck from the opposition.
Wheat Kings coach Kelly McCrimmon describes Provorov - the highest-scoring rookie in the WHL last season - as being "fiercely proud of playing good defense."
If his trajectory continues, Provorov could become the franchise-type defenseman NHL teams dream about.
What the scouts are saying
John Williams, Central Scouting
He's very composed with the puck, has excellent vision and knows where everybody is on the ice. He has good hockey IQ and takes advantage when he sees an opening both offensively and defensively. He will play a physical game and can separate the man from the puck.
