Senators trying to move unwanted contract with departing goaltender
The Ottawa Senators are dangling more than a goaltender.
General manager Bryan Murray is hoping to package an unwanted contract - say Colin Greening or maybe David Legwand - in a trade involving either Craig Anderson or Robin Lehner.
"Well that's what I'm trying to do," Murray told TSN 1200 via Ian Mendes. "To make sure that when we talk to teams about the goaltending that we are adding another piece to it and it is because of contract.
"We might take something a little less because of that, but we think that a couple of the guys that we are trying to move can play on other teams as well. We just happen to have a group of young guys now that have taken their spots."
Though they have competition in the goaltending market, Ottawa is in a truly unique position, being willing to part with either player to maximize the ideal return.
Or shed the right contract, at least.
