Report: Mike Reilly won't sign with Rangers
The New York Rangers will reportedly not be the destination for coveted collegiate defenseman Mike Reilly.
The Rangers were informed Wednesday that they have no chance of signing the former Minnesota blue-liner, Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports:
The Rangers always were regarded as a long shot in the Mike Reilly Derby, but the club was notified by his camp Wednesday they have no shot to sign the collegiate free agent defenseman out of Minnesota, The Post has learned.
Reilly met with the Rangers at the scouting combine earlier this month, according to the report.
He also opted not to sign with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who drafted him in 2011, choosing instead to enter unrestricted free agency.
The 21-year-old has reportedly narrowed his list of potential teams down to three, with the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, and Minnesota Wild believed to be most interested.
Reilly's father, Michael, is a minority investor with the Wild.
The defenseman notched 42 points in 39 games in his third season with the Golden Gophers. He represented the United States at the World Hockey Championship last month, appearing in all 10 contests and registering one assist.
