Report: Paul MacLean on verge of accepting assistant position with Ducks

Former Ottawa Senators head coach Paul MacLean is on the verge of taking an assistant position with the Anaheim Ducks, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

McKenzie's report comes moments after the Edmonton Oilers, who were believed to have inquired about permission to speak with MacLean, finalized their coaching staff.

It will be a homecoming for MacLean, who served under Mike Babcock when he coached the Ducks in the early 2000s before following him to the Detroit Red Wings.

MacLean saw diminishing returns in each of his four seasons as an NHL head coach with the Senators. He holds a 114-90-35 career record.
