The San Jose Sharks traded pending unrestricted free agent goaltender Antti Niemi to the Dallas Stars for the 193rd overall selection at the 2015 NHL Draft on Saturday.
Niemi made 296 appearances over five seasons with San Jose. The 31-year-old is coming off a four-year deal with an average annual value of $3.8 million.
The Stars have Kari Lehtonen under contract for three more seasons with a cap hit of $5.9 million, but Niemi should provide them with a solid option behind the oft-injured netminder.
