Garth Snow is showing his frugal side.
The New York Islanders general manager is close to signing defenseman Thomas Hickey - a former fourth overall pick in 2007 - to a three-year deal worth around $6.5 million, reports Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Hickey, 26, appeared in 81 games for the Isles last season, potting two goals while adding 20 assists.
He also blocked 136 shots for the squad, second on the team to Johnny Boychuk.
Hickey, a restricted free agent, earned $750,000 last season.
