Mike Richards is allegedly involved in an ongoing investigation being carried out by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, reports ESPN's Katie Strang.
Richards has not been charged, but is connected to an incident that's also believed to involve the Canada Border Services Agency.
His contract was terminated by the Los Angeles Kings, who cited "a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract" on Monday after they were made aware of the incident at the NHL draft.
The Kings are operating with no contractual obligation to Richards, though they will incur minor penalties against the cap.
