Oilers trade Boyd Gordon to Coyotes for Lauri Korpikoski
The Edmonton Oilers and Arizona Coyotes swapped depth players ahead of Wednesday's free agent frenzy, with Edmonton sending Boyd Gordon to Arizona for Lauri Korpikoski on Tuesday.
Gordon, who has one season remaining on a three-year deal paying him $3 million annually, played two seasons with the Coyotes before signing with Edmonton. The 31-year-old recorded 13 points in 68 games with the Oilers in 2014-15.
"We are very pleased to re-acquire Boyd Gordon," Coyotes general manager Don Maloney told the team's official website. "Boyd is an excellent defensive center who is one of the league's best in the face-off circle. He has a great work ethic and will add experience and leadership to our dressing room. We are excited to have him back."
Korpikoski leaves Arizona with 145 points in 401 career appearances, including 21 points in 69 games last season. The 28-year-old recorded a career-high 19 goals and 40 points in 2010-11. He has two years remaining on a deal with a cap hit of $2.5 million.
