Panthers part ways with 1st captain, director of player development Skrudland
An original member of the Florida Panthers will not be back with the club.
Director of player development Brian Skrudland's contract was not renewed, the Panthers announced Thursday.
Skrudland was the franchise's first team captain, and he played four seasons in a Panthers uniform, leading them to a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 1996. He was named director of player development in the summer of 2010.
He served as an assistant coach during the 2013-14 season.
The Panthers made eight other hockey operations moves Thursday, including the promotion of director of scouting Scott Luce to director of player personnel.
The club also confirmed that assistant coach Mark Morris has been named head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes' AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. That move was announced by Carolina last week.
