KHL coach Andrei Nazarov accused of punching, kicking team doctor
Andrei Nazarov appears to be in hot water.
The former NHL forward and current coach of KHL club SKA St. Petersburg is alleged to have badly injured team doctor Egor Kozlov.
According to Russian newspaper Sport Express, Kozlov was hospitalized with a head injury, concussion, and bruising to the chest following the alleged incident with Nazarov.
Kozlov himself described being punched and kicked by the coach, according to the Ottawa Sun:
Nazarov ran around the table. I stayed seated and didn't even think that there could be anything physical. At the last moment I covered myself, hunched up. But he punched me around five times in the head. When it seemed the threat was over, I opened up and moved my arms away. At that moment Nazarov stepped backwards a little and kicked me in the breastbone with all his strength.
Nazarov, who accrued 1,409 penalty minutes in 571 career NHL games, threw a water bottle at an opposing player this past season.
SKA St. Petersburg has reportedly denied any conflict between Nazarov and Kozlov.
