The New Jersey Devils are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing defenseman Adam Larsson to a long-term contract.
Larsson has an arbitration hearing planned for July 29, but agent J.P. Barry told Tom Gulitti of The Record that they have been negotiating with the Devils since late last week.
“We're going to see if something longer term makes sense and, if not, then we'd probably go back to a two-year deal,” Barry said.
On Tuesday, the Devils signed defenseman Eric Gelinas to a two-year deal reportedly worth $3.15 million.
Larsson is a restricted free agent who, like Gelinas, carried a cap hit of $900,000 in 2014-15. Larsson notched 24 points in 64 games for the Devils in his fourth NHL season.
