Stars sign Johnny Oduya to 2-year contract worth reported $7.5M

The Dallas Stars have signed free-agent defenseman Johnny Oduya to a two-year contract.

Oduya's deal will carry an average annual value of $3.75 million, Sportsnet's Chris Johnston reports.

"Johnny is a steady, veteran presence on the blueline and he'll complement our group nicely," Stars general manager Jim Nill said.

"He has achieved a great deal of success, winning the Stanley Cup twice, and his championship-mentality will be valuable in our room."

The Stars were one of several teams in the mix for the former Chicago Blackhawk, as Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday.

Oduya was an unrestricted free agent who carried a cap hit of $3.375 million in 2014-15.

The 33-year-old ranked fourth on the Blackhawks in average time-on-ice, logging 20:17 per game in the regular season and 24:45 in the playoffs.

Oduya's two Stanley Cup championships came in 2013 and 2015.

The nine-year veteran has 152 points in 664 career games with the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, and the Blackhawks.
