Report: Blackhawks' Patrick Kane accused of sexual assault
Police in Western New York are reportedly investigating Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane.
The star winger is the subject of a rape investigation in Hamburg, N.Y., according to a report by the Buffalo News.
A local woman has reportedly accused Kane of a sexual assault. Law enforcement sources told the publication that the woman went to a hospital and underwent a sexual assault forensic exam following an alleged incident last weekend.
No charges have been filed.
“We are aware of the police investigation and are following developments," NHL spokesman Frank Brown said Thursday.
The Blackhawks issued a similar statement:
We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.
Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett and Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III declined further comment.
Kane and his cousin pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2009 after an incident involving a Buffalo cab driver.
Paul J. Cambria, Jr., who represented Kane in that case, declined to elaborate when asked about the report.
Kane is scheduled to have his day with the Stanley Cup on Saturday in Buffalo, according to WGRZ.
