Agent 'can't believe' Derek Roy remains unsigned

In helping Nail Yakupov steady his career, Derek Roy seemed to inject new life into his own following his trade to the Edmonton Oilers.

But still unsigned into August, and without an opportunity with the Oilers after they fell into fellow center Connor McDavid, Roy's camp is left scratching their heads.

"I can't believe nobody in the NHL will sign Derek," his agent, Rob Hooper, told Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal.

The outlook looks bleak, with other bigger-name free agents still on the market, but Roy, who Hooper says is in great shape since enlisting the help of fitness guru Gary Roberts, isn't looking to settle for a job elsewhere.

"We've had some lucrative offers to go over to Europe, but Derek's a competitor who would like to participate in the National Hockey League and try to win a Stanley Cup."

Roy, 32, scored 11 goals and 22 points in 46 games with the Oilers last season after falling flat in the first few months of his one-year agreement with the Nashville Predators.
