Islanders sign Matt Carkner, Eric Boulton, 2 others to tryout contracts
The New York Islanders have signed defenseman Matt Carkner, forward Eric Boulton, and a pair of undrafted players to professional tryout contracts.
Carkner was an unrestricted free agent who played 19 games last season for the Islanders' AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The 34-year-old appeared in 75 combined games for the Islanders from 2012 to 2014.
Boulton played 48 games with the Islanders over the last three seasons. The 39-year-old was a ninth-round pick of the New York Rangers in 1994. His signing was announced separately Monday afternoon.
Forward Tyler Barnes and goaltender Parker Milner were also inked on tryout agreements.
Barnes appeared in two games for the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins last season, spending the majority of the campaign with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. The 25-year-old scored 34 goals and added 40 assists in 71 contests.
Milner went 24-14-3 with a 2.28 GAA and .920 save percentage in 43 games with the ECHL's Quad City Mallards. The 24-year-old appeared in one game for the AHL's Iowa Wild, allowing two goals in 12 minutes.
