Canadiens name Craig Ramsay coaching consultant
The Montreal Canadiens have hired former NHL head coach Craig Ramsay as a coaching consultant.
“He has an impressive hockey background, having worked as an NHL coach for over 20 years, following a playing career that included over 1,000 games played," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said.
"On a consulting basis, he will be called upon regularly during the season to share his knowledge with our coaching group. Our players will also benefit from his expertise."
Ramsay has nearly 30 years of coaching experience with eight NHL clubs, most recently serving as an assistant coach with the Edmonton Oilers before he was let go in June.
He also worked with the Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres, and Atlanta Thrashers, serving as head coach in Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Atlanta.
Ramsay played 1,070 games for the Sabres from 1971-72 to 1984-85.
